‘Puuuurrrr, Puuuurrrr… Oh, that feels good. A little to the right,’ I think as my surroundings start to come back to me. ‘Oh, these are so dirty,’ I think as I look down at my paws and begin to lick and purr louder.
“Aren’t you a happy kitty?” Krystal asked in a baby voice as she continues to stroke my fur.
“I am a happy….” I pause midlick. “Holy Hells, what did you do to me?!” I shriek for it to only come out as a loud meow. ‘This can’t be!’ I meow as I bound towards the mirror at the end of the counter only to come face to face with whiskers and black stripped fur. I turn every which way trying to come to grips with the image of the black tabby that used to be Krystal’s cat. Silted green eyes stared back at me, wide and afraid. I can’t believe what just happened. I continued staring at my reflection in disbelief until a familiar smirk comes into view.
“YOU!!!!” I yell or cat shriek, as I gracefully turn, and leap towards Jona’s face. “YOU DID THIS TO ME, AGAIN!” I shriek as Jona catches me effortlessly and holds my small body an arm’s length away laughing as I struggle to mark up his flawless face. Jona pulls me closer to me, cooing at me as if I were a baby. My new-found claws of fury do their worst and gain satisfaction from the small amount of blood I draw from his cheek. That took the smirk right off of his devilishly handsome face. Anger replaced the smugness as he grips me by the scruff of my neck, preparing to throw me across the store. Fortunately, Krystal was quick for a human and plucks me from his clutches.
“I will take that. She may be a demon, but I can still put my cat’s soul back in that body,” Krystal says while gently stroking my fur, instantly drawing more purrs from me and calming me down in the process. She set me back down on the counter and leans over until she is on eye level with me.
“I know this is a bit of a surprise to you but in order for us to help you I couldn’t have you in my head.” She states matter-of-factly.
‘Oh, so the cat was a better idea?!’ I huffed, insulted by my current predicament. ‘You should have just put me back in a bottle.’
“Yeah, I know. The bottle would have seemed like a logical solution, but I sold my last lamp. Since you can’t survive outside of a live host. The cat it is,” Krystal explained.
‘Fine, I get that but…. Wait. How can you hear me? I know I am meowing because those norms are not looking at us funny,” I asked confused as to why communication seems to be easy.
“I know it has been a while, my dear but you should remember that psychics can communicate with almost any creature. We just had to tune into your frequency,” Jona offered as he retained his bored expression.
‘Right. Well, what now?’ I asked chagrined by this turn of events. ‘I need a new body, and you want your cat back.” I stated the obvious, resisting the urge to lick my paws again, before turning to Jona. ‘What is it that you want?’ I meowed.
“Someone is chatty over there,” a random person interrupted our conversation. I narrowed my new cat eyes at them and hissed.
“She is hungry. You know how cats can be,” Krystal covered picking me up and moving us to the other end of the counter.
Jona chuckled before placing his hand on his chest. ”Who me?” he asked. “I just want to help you and Krystal out of this sticky situation.”
“Ha! Lies! I know that is not all. You better start talking, fairy boy,” I grimaced as best I could with cat features. I did not believe a word the fae prince said.
“I will not stand here and be besmirched by a cat,” Jona said indignantly.
“Your ego is so… Did you hear that?” I asked, my ears perking up and swiveling towards the commotion.
“I don’t hear any…” Krystal started to reply as a low rumble sounded through the store. Followed by a loud audible POP that sounded around us. The ground in front of the cauldron was softer than I would have imagined as I landed on all four paws. I looked over to see Jona helping Krystal up from the ground. Humans are always so uncoordinated. But I think she is worse.
“Isn’t this a welcome surprise?!” a tall woman acknowledged us with a crisp accent. “I wasn’t expecting you in this form, Minerva,” she said picking me up by the scruff of my neck. “But this will make for great fun.”
