“Do I look like Del- a Delphine?” I ask. This vampire has always left my head spinning. Now is no exception. He is as beautiful as he is cruel.
“You may not look like her in this,” he gestures to the body I inhabit. “But I would know you in this lifetime and any other, anywhere,” Korbin states giving me his full attention. Stormi is by her niece in a blink kneeling next to her checking her for any scratches or punctures.
Korbin stalks closer to me and I am transfixed. Without my consent my feet move as if drawn into his orbit. Curse him. In this body we are such opposites. He is just as magnificent as I remember him to be. Here I am with graying hair, perfectly coiffed, of course. My eyes are the darkest blue of midnight. This black dress dripping with class and excess hugging the shapely figure. Different enough from my original body. I was young-looking, jet-black hair in waves down my back setting off my gold green eyes and olive complexion. Not this pale skin with deep-set features. Here my prince stands his golden mane just below his ears and shaggy. His icy blue gaze freezing the breath in my body. He closes the gap between us. Ever the unpredictable predator. Every long-legged step, slow and cautious, as if he is worried about spooking me. His gaze racks over me as if he was searching for the woman he used to know.
“You were always a clever boy, weren’t you?” I muse, reaching out daring to caress his alabaster skin.
“I thought you were a djinn, not a vampire. Delphine was a vampire,” Stormi says quietly from the wall. Krystal cradled in her arms trying not to draw too much attention their way. I turn in her direction.
“That is complicated. At one time I was but things – happened.” I reply turning back to the man who was now crowding my space. His massive hand gently lifts my hand placing kisses on the back of it gazing up at me. Korbin straightens to his full height draping his fingers gently across my face. They travel down my cheek to my throat where they rest causing me to smile as what little warmth they hold causes my skin to flush.
“I should have known you would remember me. In this lifetime and the next,” I sigh as I move to break his hold. His fingers tightened and I can’t move. Confusion and anger start to color my skin until I look up into his eyes. Korbin’s eyes grow brighter in intensity causing my pulse to spike as my panic overrides my other senses. I pulled against his grip pulling on my supernatural strength but still I can’t break his hold. It only causes a growl to trickle from his throat.
I hear Krystal whimper from somewhere nearby and I start to struggle in earnest. My fists just bounce off of him like they were nothing. Like I was nothing. From struggling against him to my head bouncing off of the wall, my feet dangling underneath me, my heel dropping to the floor. Korbin moves his face to within a hairs breathe of my face. My many lifetimes flash before my eyes. So many choices. So many regrets. The most important one belonged to Aloys, Marcus and me. The only one that had had any meaning in all of my centuries of living.
“I thought I told you never to return here or I would kill you. Again,” Korbin sneered as my head is slammed back into the wall before all fades to black.
